Inside Out: The faces of the Port

Inspired by the large-format collages that the French artist JR creates in public places, the global Inside Out platform allows anyone to tell their story and turn it into a public art work. All the actions of the Inside/Out group are conceived as a series of portraits in standard format, posted in high visibility public places. From Karachi to Chiang Mai, from Oakland to Caracas, from San Salvador, to Paris, from Palestine to India, thousands of people have regained possession of public spaces that were previously not accessible and challenged the limits of what is commonly believed to be feasible. More than 260,000 people took part in the project in 129 different countries of the world.

In Genoa, Facce dal Porto project aims to discover the human dimension of port work and to give it back public recognition, in an era of increasing mechanisation and a weakening of the relationship and the exchange between the city and the port. The portraits of the workers of the Port of Genoa are posted on the internal surface of the dam that protects the port from the open sea, as a form of greeting and welcome from the community of the Port of Genoa to ships arriving and departing.

The exhibition has been seen by the ships passing by.
